Slide show option not available

Posted: 11-13-2004, 01:41 AM
Hello, a friend of mine has a problem. The option to view pistures as a
slide show is never offered to her when she inserts a photo CD or looks in a
photo folder.

I have looked the MSKB and cannot find an answer. The "show common tasks in
folder" option is selected. I am lost as to what to do. Any help would be
greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance,

Aaron

Click on Start and click on Run.
Type the following in the textbox:
REGSVR32 SHIMGVW.DLL
Note that there is a space between ...32 and SHI... and that there is a .
between ..VW and DLL
And press the Enter key.
This will take a second or two to run and you should get a "success"
message. Then look again under the Picture Tasks and this option should now
be listed there.

The other way to do it is simply double click on a photo. This will open the
screen showing the photo. Under the photo you should see a series of small
icons. One looks like a screen. Double click on it to start the slide show.
If you do not see the series of icons below the photo, the window is not
opened full screen. Double click on the top blue bar of the window to open
the window full screen. If you want to stop the slide show, press the Esc
key.

Thanks Yves, I really appreciate it. I am getting ready to go over there now
and try your answer out. Hope you have a nice weekend. Thanks again.

Hey Yves, it worked after registering that dll and rebooting. Thank you very
much. My friend is very happy.

I have encountered the same problem and this sounds like the necessary
solution. Can you tell me if you expect it to work under XP Pro without
causing problems? Thank you.

I've run the DLL as you suggested and recieved a "succeeded" message, but I
see no change. Picture Tasks is not showing up in neither the menu, nor
options and when a picture is opened by double clicking, their are no
controls at the bottom left as there once were. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Fred

Thanks John! The second reference by Keith Miller was exactly on target and
allowed me to correct the problem.
