| Hi, I have upgraded two PC's from Win 95 to XP Pro on a network of 9PC'c. The network is run through a domain name and controlled by a PC with Windows NT4 Server on it. Scince I put XP on (clean installation) whenever we browse, open or save a file over the network, it takes for ever from 30 to 80 seconds to open each directory. I have written to Microsoft and they were no help at all, just told me to look at there on line help, which I had allready done. I have removed the task scheduler "D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF" from the registry, put shortcuts on the desktop increased the folders, but nothing seems to help. Has anyone got any a solution to this problem. Graham | Guest

| Hi, What protocols are you using? Is it just purely TCP/IP or with others like NetBEUI, IPX, etc. NetBEUI could be noisy and generate a lot of packets. Also, have you checked for viruses or worms in the computers? Some of the worms like Blaster, Sven can send out lots of data packets that could clog up a switch or hub. This would make the network very slow and cause the issue that you have. Anyone else with suggestions?? Ardnerus Quote:

| 1) Check under the Properties of My Network places, under the Advanced drop-down menu choose Advanced Settings, the the Provider Order tab. Make sure Microsoft Windows Network is at or near the top. 2) More for Office Products - OSA (http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;165071), though I have found no papers on it, seems to do a search on networks for all docs (XLS/PPT/Ect) in the MRU (Most reciently Used) list in an attempt to pre-cache them. I found by uninstalling OSA, it takes a smidge more time to open the application, but must less time opening a doc. | Guest
