slow data transfer. hard drive stuck in PIO mode

Posted: 01-20-2004, 03:31 PM
Installed secondary hard drive and experienced very slow
data transfer. Hard drive defaulted to PIO mode. Tried
to toggle to reset but no luck. Also tried uninstall of
the drive and controller and re-install, but no luck. How
can this drive (western digital 120gb 7200 special
edition) be set up for DMA in windows XP?

Did you use WD's Data Lifeguard to initially install and properly identify
the drive? It's on their web site.

Check your BIOS. Make sure the IDE Channels are set to DMA Mode. Don't connect Hard Drive and older CD-ROM Drive in same channel or Install latest drivers for your motherboard.
