Slow file transfer via IEEE 1394 Firewire to external drive

Posted: 12-16-2006, 05:41 PM
I'm getting only about 1.39 MB/sec to my external 3.5" 7200 RPM drive, off
of IEEE 1394 Firewire connected by PCMCIA. I don't think this is normal. ANy
suggestions on how to speed it up? I'm transferring files from another
external drive connected by USB 2.0, but that doesn't seem to be the
bottleneck because transferring to my internal drive is at least four times
as fast.

The average speed that I have been seeing on RTM is about 11 MB/s, for some
reason it is moving files very slowly. I occasionally see bursts off higher
transfer rates, but not often. :^(

I wish I was getting 10 MB/s...I just did a transfer right now, and I had
0.5 MB/s!
