Slow Logon

Posted: 07-08-2003, 08:48 PM
I have setup a new Windows 2000 Small Business Server.
When I logon to it from a Windows XP Pro computer it
takes about 45 - 60 seconds for the logon to complete
after you enter the password and click ok. Any
suggestions as to how I can speed up the logon time.

Thanks

>Clean up your StartUp. Run MSCONFIG and uncheck
everything except your anti-virus program, click Apply/OK.
Now it will boot in 15 to 20 seconds.

It take 45 - 60 seconds to load personlized settings then
it runs the logon script then it loads the local
programs. It is taking this long to get passed loading
personal settings.

Win2k pro needs DNS configured, or it will take forever
to find the domain controller. Make sure the Pro's DNS
settings is pointing to the win2k Server as its DNS
server in its networking properties, not your ISP's DNS.
