Slow Network Access, cannot save files on server

Posted: 07-21-2003, 11:20 PM
I am in need of assistance. I have installed three new
computers this weekend with Windows XP Professional. I
installed an identical brand new computer with Win XP Pro
last week. The three systems ordered were off the invoice
of the other so they are in fact all identical. Now these
computers run AutoCAD Land Desktop 2i and the network
setup is as follows:
T-1 to Internet
Watchguard SOHO 6/tc 50 user firewall/VPN Appliance (This
does DHCP requests)
Windows 2000 Server (Active Directory installed for MS-
Exchange 5.5 server)
Exchange 5.5 of course
Dell Powerconnect 3250 10/100/1000 Fast Ethernet Switch
4 Dell Dimension 4600 Computers running Windows XP Pro
2 Dell Inspirion 5000 systems running Windows 2000 Pro
17 Dell Dimensions running Windows 98SE
All workstations access the Windows 2000 Server via
WORKGROUP and NOT ADS. All users have Full Access to
whole server.
2 HP Plotters networked print server
1 HP Laserjet 2200 Networked print server
3 HP Designjet's Shared off workstations.
The problem is this, The network is slow, cannot figure
out if it's on the server side, switch side or
workstation side.
It wasn't noticable using the Windows 98 PC's but with
the new XP machines installed this weekend they are
getting Write Cache Errors or unable to save to the
server because the communications with the server was
lost. However it isn't lost, I can access the mapped
drives no problem. Opening an AutoCAD file off the server
is quick, however it won't allow any saving back to the
network. When you do attempt to save to the server, the
file gets corrupted. This is ONLY from the three new XP
PC's I installed over the weekend. The one I did a week
ago is functioning just fine. I went through that machine
to match any network settings but there were none to
change they were all the same. However the only
difference is, this weekend I ran Windows Updater and
installed all service patches. I didn't do that with the
one i installed last week. So...I'm stumped. Any ideas?
Questions Please? I can answer as I go..HELP?!?!

Question for you...have you loaded the SMB patch for the
WIN2K server?

I don't believe so. I will check when I get there. What
does this SMB patch accomplish?
