Slow to no internet after Vista Updates

Posted: 03-20-2008, 04:03 PM

I hope you guys can help me. I've been running Vista Ultimate x64 since
this past September. My issue poped up Saturday morning. Friday night it
was working perfectly and before I went to bed I applied Vista updates.
What's happening is this. Anything that needs DNS resolution on the
internet resolves very slowly then a few seconds to minutes later it
takes soo long to resolve names that applications requesting the
resolution time out. So email times out. Webpages time out. My antivirus
can't pull down its updates. Torrent downloads work fine. Chat programs
work fine. I have a LAN. Both of my XP laptops are still able to work
normally on the internet. I thought maybe it was my FiOS router so I
reassigned the IP addresses for my computers. No change. I can reboot
the Vista box and get connectivity for a short time. The time varies.
Simetimes it's only a few minutes and other times it's over an hour. I
installed SP1 hoping it would resolve this but no luck. I can access
file shares on my other machines from my Vista box w/o any issue. My
loptops have no issues streaming A/V from my Vista box. This is driving
me crazy.

My ISP is Roadrunner, and I've been having trouble using their DNS servers.
Finally added a couple from OpenDNS, and no more problems.
