Slow performance when open text file/email/access report

Hello whenever I open a text file, access report in design
view or certain emails, my computer doesn not perform. It
acts like a 486 instead of a pentium 4 -2.4 ghz. The
mouse goes very slow accross the screen. Has anyone heard
of this??? Thanks.
