Slow response time

It feels like the XP is taking an inordinately long time
to open new programmes. For instance, running OE, IE, and
Quickbooks server to one other peer, ask for Word and it
takes about 8 seconds to respond to the command.
Is it possible that there could be two iterations of the
operating system running? How would I be able to check?

Hello Barry,
I had a look at that option and it said that 3 other Hot-
fixes may be affected adversely.
What does removeing 811493 do, exactly?

When I run Windows Media Player in XP other programs run
really slow ... if I turn it off the other programs go
back to running normally. XP and the Windows Media Player
have both been updated to current patch levels

Computer is the following:
600 Mz Pentium 3
296 Meg Memory
40G 7200rmp disk

With a 600 MHz PIII, you should not be surprised.

We are using windows explorer on an XP Porfessional
computer to access a directory with 16,000 files on
another computer with XP professional. It takes 90 seconds
to display the directory list. Windows 98 only take 3
seconds. Any ideas to speed up response time?
