Slow speed Time for loading RemotBoot Image

Posted: 01-31-2004, 02:31 PM
Hi,

I use the RemoteBoot process with the PXE system.
The time for loading this image = 6 minutes.
How to decrease this time ?

Michel, sorry but there is a very little that you can do, or too much that
you must do.

You can change BIOS. Probably not an option.
Or you can reduce the size of your SDI file.

As an alternative you can.
Write your custom boot loader with net support that will do proprietary fast
download and decompression of data, and then follow document written by Saad
that explains how to boot SDI file that is loaded in memory.

Slobodan

My company, Venturcom, has a software product called BXP that allows PXE booting of Windows 2000 (Professional or Server), Windows XP (Home, Professional, and EMBEDDED--of course), and Windows Server 2003 clients

Eric,

Will the product make the remote boot faster? If so, how does it do that?
If it uses standard PXE support, the product couldn't use any image
compression while transferring the image to client. Then I don't see any
advantages of using third party product in remote boot process. MS Remote
Boot Manager sure does a good job for that.

KM - indeed, the BXP boot process is far faster - at times, it can
even be faster than a local HD boot. BXP virtualises the local HD and
stores it on a server. It uses standard PXE or BOOTP support, as well.
There are other advantages as well - check out the VenturCom site on
BXP.
