Default Slow Vista

I installed vista beta 2 on my P4 3.6ghz w/ 2gig DDR2 and a nvidia 6800 ultra
512mb. Vista is installed in a partition on a 10k rpm WD raptor. However,
vista struggles to run smoothly w/ aero on, which is sucking up more than its
fair share of ram/cpu. Sure it looks nice but dwm.exe takes up more
resources than any 3d app/game on XP. I disabled search indexer and defraged
my HD. My theroies are either driver based or the fact that the partition is
very small (18gigs)

any help?

I suspect its just a case of the code not being optimized for performance.
Vista is still in development and as we go forward we will continue to see
the issues with performance, worked and better drivers help to make the
experience much better.

I would report any issues you having in the mean time using the following

I have it on a P4 3.0, 1GB RAM, ATI x800xt 256MB, and it's quick. My other
box, a P4 3.6, 1GB RAM, Ati 9600 works quick, too.

It may be a driver issue. I am using IDE and not SATA like the Raptor.
Your's should be hauling. It's not the partition size, either. I'm running
on a 18GB, too.

It does use a lot of RAM, I'm using 530 of the 1GB, which is a lot, but it
is still very responsive and loads quickly. It's slower than XP, but it's
still fast.

I am running on P4 3.0 ghz and 1 gig ram and it runs fine. I suspect you
have a driver issue.
