SLOWWWWWW SEARCH WITH GOOGLE, MSN AND YAHOO!

Posted: 06-18-2004, 03:54 PM
I have seen many people with the same problem, but no one
seems to have an answer! Some say that yahoo and google
are just having trouble right now?! sigh..does anyone
know anything!?

If i do a search thru google or yahoo it hangs. It takes
a while to even get my hour glass symbol...for a while
only a curser, then i have to double click to get the
hour glass..very horrible. A single search takes up to 5
minutes..repeats the length of wait just to go to another
page in the same search. I can use other less well known
search engines just fine, like excite, but ask jeeves
also gives me issues. I also get the "not responding"
message in the blue header at the top while trying to get
a search going. I simply cannot "surf" the web.

I have done spybot search, adaware plus search, i have
adwatch, nortons, zone alarm running. I have done a
search for corupted or missing files on my pc, and have
emptied cache and temp files till im blue. I have run a
scan disk, and disk defragmented my hard drive. Nothing
makes anyof this better!

HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THANK YOU!

When you say you are running Norton's and Zone Alarm, are you referring to
Norton Internet Security, if yes, perhaps the fact you are running two
firewalls is related to the issue.

I can tell you, I've noticed the same issue with Google lately, though not
taking as long as five minutes there's a definite lag. I know they made
some changes in their search engine in the last month and everything slowed
down thereafter. That, of course, doesn't answer your question but at the
very least check the above to make sure you are not running more than one
firewall.

Also, what type of connection do you have, broadband or dialup, are you
connecting through a proxy, are you using a router? Further, some of the
software you mention has ad blocking and popup blocking capabilities as well
as cookie blocking. Ad blocking can cause slow access to pages and cookie
blocking can do the same as there are multiple elements on a page and some
of those elements are tied to different cookies. Hence, there's an ask an
answer process between the site and your setup when you have such blocking
activated.
