Smart Card Login

Posted: 06-30-2003, 03:55 PM
Hello all,

I am using Gemplus GemPC410 Serial SmartCard Reader. I want to create
a SmartCard User Login. For this, I installed the proper Drivers.

Now to make users login with the smartcard. I went to Services ------>
SmartCard.

Now the follow error message appeard:

" Configuration Manager: The specified device instance handle does
not correspond to a present device."

Then, Smart Card Properties(Local Computer) window opened.

Here, I selected

--- " Allow Service to interact with desktop " option.

I logged off and logged in.

But the User logged off and logged on without any authentication from
the SmartCard. What could be the reason behind this?

The Next Time, I selected "This Account", and Typed the User Name and
Password & Confirm Password. Now the following message appeared.

"The new logon name will not take effect until you stop and restart
the service. "

Now I tried to restart the service.

-------------------------------------------------------------
"Could not start the Smart Card Service on Local Computer
Error 1069: The service did not start due to a logon failure."
-------------------------------------------------------------

What should I do, to enable all the users, login into my system only
with the smart cards?

with regards,
Prem.

I need to ask this. Did you include any kind of
cryptographic smart card software, or are you simply
using the core XPe smart card subsystem drivers? Without
additional smart card software, all you have is the core
subsystem to support the reader, but no way to do actual
authentication.

Thanks for your response.

I donot use any additional smart card software. I want to use core
subsystem to support the reader.

Can I do this?

with regards,
prem.
