Some WAV files fail to play

Maybe not the best group for this but I couldnt see a better one.
Apologies!!

Scenario

Overclocked Gigabyte Mobo with Realtek AC97 sound chip. Sound starts
to stutter and after much detective work this seems to be due to the
sound chip having become intolerant of overclocking. Reducing
overclocking restores sound perfectly from all sources and players
except:--

My backgammon game (http://www.the-underdogs.org/game.php?id=4101)!!
This worked perfectly but now some of the wav sounds do not play
properly. The sound of rolling dice is made by playing several very
small wav files in varying orders very quickly. The first starts but
the silence.

Reinstalling, even to a different location, makes no difference.
The wav files play perfectly in other players so are not corrupt.
If I overwrite the wav files with other small wav files, these play
correctly so the program is not damaged.

Where else can I look for a solution?

Thanks.

John
