sound cards???

Hi does any one know how to fix sound problems?
My speakes worked fine until a couple of days ago when i
had a diner party~ when i go to play an audio track it
says that there is no software and that either the sound
card is not working properly or there isn't one~ I am not
to sure what this means- couldnt any one help me?
