Sound Controlled Program not Installed

I do not seem to have standard windows sound driver sndvol32 installed on my
system. When I click on /Control Panel/Sound and Audio Devices/ Place
Volume icon in Task Bar, I receive an error message that volume control
program is not installed. On my Windows XP CD there is a file named
sndvol32.ex_, is there a way to install this file from the Windows CD to the
system?
