Sound device not installed

Hi,

I have formatted my machine and installed XP on it. it can not play an
sound file . I am giving machine details here. I have checked with medi
player. It says there is no sound device installed. I have checke
start>program>accessories>system tool>syste
information>component>sound. The field is vaccant here.
Can anyone please help me out.

My mother board cd is not working. Is it available on internet t
download ?
Moreover, I do I know which version is compatible for my machine
