Depends. If you've XP 32bits then make sure you didn't download the 64 bit
drivers.

Right click on My Computer > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager > any
yellow triangles against your Soundcard entry ? If yes, the drivers are not
correctly installed.

If no device, then it could be turned off in the BIOS. You'll need to go in
there and turn it back on.
