sound issue from speakers

Just downloaded XP was 98 -- b4 download could play CD, etc -- now can play cd but unable to get sound to into, etc --- have CMI8738/C3DX PCI Audio Device -- what do I do/solve --thanks

Have you checked Windows Update for later drivers?

If you click the Words "Windows Update", after it gets through doing its
thing (you'll have to make a couple more obvious clicks) the left column
should have a Drivers link listed. I can't be more specific because I;m
running a beta of the next version of Windows Update.
