SOUND NEEDED - CAN SOMEONE LOAN ME THEIR BRAIN??

Posted: 01-17-2009, 12:43 AM
Firstly I appologise as my computer wouldn't let me commence my own mail
topic, so somehow I cashed in on your topic ,,,, soz

Ive just purchased service pack 3 (windows xp) and previously had I think
windows 95 (but it was apparently a dodgy copy). We have installed the
service pack 3 and yes yes yes,,,,, there is no volume at all. I have tried
help and support to no avail. I have also tried some hints on here to no
avail.

There seems to be a problem with D drive. I can get media player to play
video clips but no sound.
When I go into Sounds and Audio Devices, there is no audio device under
volume, when I try sound and try to play a windows default sound - nothing,,,
It looks like (an I really don't know) like maybe the hardware is incorrect
or there is no hardware??

I tried Start, All Programs, Accessories, entertainment and volume control
then i get a message "NO ACTIVE MIXER DEVICES". Then follow the next steps
which is Control Panel, Print and OtherHWare devices and Add Hardware then
blow me down,,,,,,, it tells me to insert the installation cd (which im
guessing is the disc labelled Windows Home Edition) and install hardware this
way,,,

How do I install off of this disc when we have already been through and
installed everything on it,,,,,,

Can someone help please????

Cheers I would appreciate any help I can get,,,, Regards Ally

You need to first identify the manufacturer, make and exact model for you
sound device.
You can use any of these utilities to get information on your systems
setup.
System Information for Windows

http://www.gtopala.com/siw-download.html

Everest Home Edition: (Last one offered free)
http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloads9.html

Belarc Advisor
http://belarc.com/free_download.html

Once you have the information needed, go to the manufactures support site
and download/install the latest drivers for your specific OS and device per
their instructions. Some download packages include a install instruction
text file and some don't, so have a good look on the download page for any
instructions or a separate instruction download.

If you have any problems, please post back a response in this thread with
details on what you have tried and what problem(s) you may have.

Elle

How old is the computer? What is the make and model?

Computer hardware has been transformed since the days of Windows 95!

Hope this helps.
