Soundblaster Live! + Vista = NO SOUND

Posted: 11-03-2006, 09:39 PM
My Soundblaster Live! card works with XP but when I boot thru Vista, it says
NO AUDIO DEVICE IS INSTALLED and I get no sound. A "Multimedia Audio
Controller" is detected by Vista however the driver installation programs
(both Vista's and Creative's) do not recognize it as Soundblaster Live! So
they never manage to install the drivers. Thx for trying to help.

I was able to get SB Live! Value (a close cousin to SB Live!) to
function in Vista, using drivers downloadable from the WEB - via the
Device Manager|SOUND CONTROLLERS|DRIVERS|UPDATE|SEARCH feature.

However, don't expect much else to work - such as the utilities that
came with the card - and note that Creative reports that it will not be
supported in Vista. The error message that you are seeing is one of
several that I saw when attempting to use Recorder and other sound
software that works fine in XP. Audio handling in Vista has changed,
and companies will be adapting some products after Vista is released.

The modded drivers didn't help much on my system. I have sound (via MS
update) but the mike doesn't work and probably not the line-in either. And
you're right, in Vista the Creative installer doesn't even see the Live Card
and says no device is installed, even though in device manager it is found
and installed.
