spoolsv.exe maxing CPU load

Posted: 02-16-2007, 07:26 PM
Hi,
I am experiencing high CPU load in the Spoolsv.exe process in Windows XP
Home. I have to end process about 4 times in order for it go away, however it
returns when I restart.
I have uninstalled my printer and reinstalled then uninstalled - nothing
helps. I also have Service Pack 2.

I located article ID 835318 which tells me I need a hotfix, this will cost
$50.

Does anyone know of any other options?

Hotfixes are not charged for. When you have explained the problem to the
Customer Service Agent, you are sent an email with the link to download the
hotfix.

But... which make and model of printer do you refer to?

I have a lexmark Z25, but I don't think it is the problem. My computer is on
a small network here at home and my roommate tried to install some sort of
driver on his computer (linux, win2000) so he could print to my printer. He
doesn't think he caused this problem but I know my Lexmark Z25 was
functioning properly until he started fiddling with the printer drivers.

I had called the 1800 number and they had me on hold for 30 minutes before a
representative told me it would cost $50 for the hotfix. Maybe I should try
again when I have another 30 minutes to kill.
