Run an anti-spyware program. Adaware and Spybot Search and
Destroy are both good. I run both of them every day.

Download the freeware application spybot - search and destroy from
www.safer-networking.org
Install the software then check for any updates. Once it is updated then run
the application and it will check for spy ware and any other nasties on your
pc. Don't be surprised if it comes up with a long list of items after the
first scan.

Usually it will be on your desktop or on your tool bar.
It will also pop up when ever you open ie. Check your
all program list to see if it is there.

Download Adaware from http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/ and use
it to remove parasites.

Has anyone thought of a way to cause problems for those scumbags that use spyware, other than Spybot, etc

It's unbelievable that it's legal. I would like to cause damage. I've already taken my meds.

It's not spyware that irritates me, its spam email which
is on the increase especially with viruses attached - oh
well at least I'm getting a variety of viruses not just
Netsky.

Glad you took your meds. I hate to see what would happen to you if something really serious took place. Spyware\Adware and spam are a breeze to handle and don't cause me even a moment of problem. I use the following free programs. SpywareBlaster, SpywareGuard, Spybot Search and Destroy, HijackThis, Pop-up Stopper from panicware, and Adaware. I also have SP2 installed and when it is finally released for general install you will notice some good improvements in security, including pop-up blocking and such. 'til then have fun. {:~)
