Default standard user accounts stopped working

My standard user accounts worked fine until recently. Now, when my children
log in, they get a blank screen -- no desktop, no icons, no cursor, nothing.
I changed their accounts to administrator accounts, and the accounts work
again -- although, of course, my kids can change things that I don't want
them to change. Anybody else have this problem? Did one of those relentless
Windows updates mess up the user accounts? How can I get the Standard User
accounts working again?

I'm having the same issues as Puzzled Dad and I tried the solution that
was offered above. Unfortunately it didn't fix the problem.

I also attempted to use "sfc /scannow" from the CMD.EXE program to
repair any corrupt files but was greeted with the message that it was
unable to repair them and there would be a log (which i dont
understand).

Does anyone else have any ideas as to what could be causing this to
happen? or how i can fix it?
