Default Standard users can't add UNC paths to search?

I've installed the UNCFAT add-on to Desktop Search on my Vista Ultimate
computer so I can index folders on a server.

With UNCFAT in Win XP, I could click "Advanced" in the Indexing
Options dialog and add a UNC path to the index. In Vista, admin permissions
are required to click the "Advanced" button, so, without using elevated
permissions, I can't add the UNC path.

Moreover, since indexes appear to be per-user in Vista, if I add the path as
an admin, it's useless to Standard Users.

I have found that after I add the path as an administrator, if I then edit
the registry entry for the path in a subkey of--

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
Search\CrawlScopeManager\Windows\SystemIndex\Searc hRoots

--to change the admin's SID to my Standard User SID, the
location is indexed.

But this is a terrible way to have to implement this...please tell me there
is a better way to enable UNCFAT indexing for Standard Users!
