Strange behavior in "Recent Docus" folder

Posted: 10-07-2008, 11:02 PM

I've been encountering some strange behavior in my Vista "recen
Documents" folder ever since the last time I cleared it. Ever sinc
then, it seems to be filling up with every document I've opened sinc
then, but items are not "clearing" as time passes - instead, the list i
just growing indefinitely. Also, only the first 15 items in alphabetica
order (from that growing list) are shown

Even after I disabled and then reenabled the Recent Docs feature (fro
right-clicking the Start menu), the folder automatically repopulate
with the same huge list that was in there before

I'm running Vista 32-bit Home Premium, by the way

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help

Hi, rs913.

Are you sure it says "recent Documents"? My Vista Ultimate has a list of
"Recent Items". (Sorry to be to so picky, but you know how computers are.
Sometimes small differences are very significant.)

This list is stored in:
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Wind ows\Recent

You can, if you like, delete that entire "Recent" folder and let it start
building again.

But I'm not sure just what your goal is. If you're worried about disk
space, I can tell you that all 133 items in my Recent folder total only 123
KB, which is not enough to worry me. The actual files are not stored here,
only the Shortcuts to them. If you are worried about someone reading your
list, you can either clear the folder or, on the Start | Recent items list,
highlight an unwanted item and Delete it. That will delete it from the
visible listing and from the Recent folder. You'll still see 15 items on
the visible list because the 16th most recent one will have moved up a
notch.

Do you have a specific question about what you want to accomplish here?
