Strange Permissions Issue

Posted: 05-31-2007, 05:23 AM
So I am the administrator on my computer. I am also the user who created a
folder within a game folder. However, I can't create or copy files because I
"don't have write" access to that folder, even though in the folder's
permissions settings, the administrators and owners of the folder are granted
full access.

I'm missing something, and I'm dumbfounded. Please someone point me in the
right direction.

Thanks,
Grorange

- What program are you using to copy the files?
- Is the game folder inside of the Program Files folder?
- Do you have seperate admin and non-admin users?

In the program files folder, only administrative programs can write
there (programs that ask via "Windows needs your permission to
continue").

This prevents non-admin programs from replacing trusted, system-wide
programs inside of program files in order to take over your computer.

If you want to be able to write to your specially created folder, you
will need to use the security tab to give your username (or the
'users' group) permission to write there, but understand that this
will allow all programs to also write to that location.
