Strange popup ad!

Posted: 09-09-2003, 05:22 AM
I have a Windows XP system with Norton Antivirus and
firewall on a cable modem. The other day after leaving my
machine on for a couple of hours a window titled "message-
against fat" with advertising in the window for
www.againstfat.com . Is this spam using a windows message
service or is it an old friend of mine (cable tech
support) trying to freak me out. I'm really suprised my
firewall let this in, as it just poped up when the system
was idle on the desktop. Any thoughts?

Messenger spam, pretty freaky stuff first time it
happens, hey... check here

explains it all. port 135 UDP, messenger port, easily
disabled via management panel/ services / messenger..

If the firewall is working, then it is likely caused by adware type of
spyware. You have a program or IE extension that is popping up
unsolicited ads.
