swapping hard drive

I want to replace my PC's Hard drive. Is it going to work
if I copy everything from the old HDD to a new one,
instead of installing XP from a scratch on the new HDD.

You may wish to visit the support website of the manufacturer of your
new hard drive and see if they have a free utility program that you can use to
accomplish this task. For example, if you have a new Western Digital drive,
you can download their free Data Lifeguard Tools which includes "drive-to-drive
copy capability" (Ref: http://support.wdc.com/download/).

Fujitsu

IBM and Hitachi

Maxtor

Seagate
http://www.seagate.com/support/seatools/index.html

Western Digital

www.westerndigital.com

Or you can purchase Norton Ghost and create an "image"
of your old hard drive:

Copy wont work; either install from scratch or use a third party tool eg
Norton Ghost
I have to say why replace hd? as opposed to installing a second
