Swapping over Licences and versions

Posted: 05-03-2007, 09:18 AM
Hi, wonder if someone could help me please, here goes...

I have two computers, one running Vista Home Premium and one XP Home. The
Vista one was originally an XP Pro version and I purchased and re-installed
Vista. I have now just received Vista Business as part of an upgrade for the
PC which is currently running Vista. Therefore I want to;

1/ Change the PC running Vista Home to run Vista Business ( I guess I will
need to uninstall Home or can I upgrade? if so what do I do as far as the
licence?)

2/ Upgrade the XP Home version to run Vista Home Premium (and use the
licence from the other machine as that will have the Vista Business Licence
now)

Surely this is a relatively easy thing to do but my only worry is the way
the validation/licence will have to be de-registered and re-registered for
Vista Home Premium.

Hope someone can help

Hi,

Install the Vista Home Premium upgrade to the existing XP Home system, you
will simply need to phone in activation. The Business Upgrade will need to
be a clean installation ('custom' if started from within the existing
installation), you can't directly upgrade to it from Home Premium.
Applications will need to be reinstalled on that machine.

From licencing view point, if you received Vista Bus. as an upgrade for
Vista Home - you might find some small print that says the Vista Home is no
longer licenced.
