Default switching users

I have been trying to set my computer so that I can use
both the welcome screen and the fast switching. However,
whenever I select these options to be applied, nothing
happens. I need help!!

Hi Carmen,

No reason you can't use both, unless perhaps you have offline folders
enabled (XP Pro only)?

While I appreciate your reply, I do not see how that has
any bearing on my problem. I realize that I should be able
to do both, but for whatever reason, I am not able to do
EITHER. What could the problem be (I have followed the
instructions to the letter and it still does not work..and
I am on a workgroup, not a domain)??

Hi Carmen,

The comment was meant to convey that you cannot use fast-user switching or
enable it *if* offline folders are enabled on the system.

Start/run 'control userpasswords2'

On the advanced tab, is the option requiring users to use ctrl+alt+delete
enabled (secure logon near the bottom)?

It's impossible to tell. It sounds like an issue with your graphics card.
If your card is sharing memory with main system memory as opposed to a card
with its own memory, that might be the issue. It's possible you only need
to update the drivers for your graphics card from the card manufactuarer's
web site.

Those are two possibilities.

That happened to me until I dropped all the high resolution screensavers and wallpapers I was using
on may machine with the integrated graphics. Most of them were 3D images from web shots and it just
couldn't switch gears ( so to speak) fast enough.
You might want to try just switching to one of the stock screensavers and wallpapers that came with
your OS and see if that helps.

There are many applications that weren't designed to work with this feature.
Most likely, you have something loading at bootup that is incompatible so
you might want to check whatever is loading in the notification are, the
area to the immediate left of the clock, to see if the applications are
compatible with "fast user switching." You probably will have to check the
manufacturer's web sites or with their tech support.
