Sync Center

Posted: 01-01-2008, 09:09 AM
I've Vista on a domain with offline files. Why is it that SyncCenter doesn't
seem to do anything that XP did? Here are all my observations:

1. SyncCenter indicates that the last sync was on 12/22/07 14:28. It never
progresses?
2. XP would pop-up a window from the system tray indicating when I was
offline. Vista gives me no such indication.
3. XP could show me a listing of all offline files, Vista has no such
listing.

In summary, the only way I can tell if my redirected folders (offline files)
are actually offline or not, is to disconnect the network and see if I can
still access them.

I'm pretty sure it is working, because when I do disconnect from the
network, SyncCenter will indicate once some files become out of sync. But I
must go looking for this information. There is no obvious sign that my
computer went offline.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks,
Bob

Dear Bob,

Thank you for your post.

Per your questions, I would like to share the following analysis with you:

1. SyncCenter indicates that the last sync was on 12/22/07 14:28. It never
progresses?

[Neo]:

On Windows Vista Operating System, you could configure the Sync Schedule in
the following way:

In Control Panel, click Network and Internet, and then click Sync Center.
Please select one Offline Files under Folders tab and click Schedule.

Select the items you want to sync on this schedule and click Next. After
that, you will see two options which you can choose: At a schedule time or
On an event or action. If you select At a scheduled time, you can manually
set a schedule for the time to sync. If you select On an event or action,
the events or actions you selected will automatically sync "Offline Files".

Please select one of the above two options according to your requirement.

2. XP would pop-up a window from the system tray indicating when I was
offline. Vista gives me no such indication.

[Neo]:

On Windows Vista Operating System, the details pane of Offline Files in
Windows Explorer shows Offline status and Offline availability states. For
example, when the Offline Files work offline, you will see the states
(working offline) in the following screenshot:

3. XP could show me a listing of all offline files, Vista has no such
listing.

[Neo]:

On Windows Vista Operating System, you could view your Offline Files in
this way:
In Control Panel, click Network and Internet, and then click Offline Files,
click ' View your offline files ' button.
