Synchronizing issues

I have a windows xp sp1 laptop and I made some network shares setup for
offline use. The issue that im have is sometimes when i connect my laptop to
the network and i do a start > Run > \\server I only see the folder that is
setup for offline use. I press F5 to refresh and same thing. I can ping the
server fine. For some reason the computer still thinks its not connected to
the network. Any suggestion on how to fix this.
