should do on Usenet.
Syndicate Wars...
OK, I lost my notes on Syndicate Wars, but I recall it was working for me.
So I guess I have to dig into my archives and see if I can't figure out how
I got it working. As I recall I used DOSBox (Http://dosbox.sourceforge.net I
think), and I had to tweak the settings a bit to get it working, but if you
want to try DOSBox in the meantime here's what you can try:
Download and run DOSBox, just do a normal installation.
Bring up your Start Menu (Tap Windows Key) and type DOSBOX.
One of the 3 icons should be Dosbox.conf, select that.
At the END of this file, add the lines:
@echo off
mount c c:\DOS\
mount d D:\ -t cdrom -usecd 0 -ioctl
c:
Change D:\ to the letter of your CDROM drive on your computer
Make a folder on your C: drive, call it "DOS"
Start up DOSBOX (press Start button, type DOSBOX, click DOSBOX icon)
Once in DOSBOX type D: and press Enter
If you have your Syndicate Wars CD in the drive, type SETUP or INSTALL (I
forget which)
The installer for Syndicate Wars should start. Follow the prompts to install
the game, and try to run it.
When the installer asks for a sound card you can choose Sound Blaster 16 or
Gravis UltraSound, either should work.
Try that, if it doesn't work we can try Virtual PC with FreeDOS, that
sometimes works as well. Keep in mind even if you get it working, Syndicate
Wars is a real pain in the ass, it just doesn't run that great. I'd almost
suggest finding a copy of the original Syndicate and playing that, but try
this, see if it works.
