Greetings --

Reboot in Safe Mode. But why in the world would you want to
disable the firewall? The only valid reason I can think to _not_ use
a firewall would be if one is deliberately "collecting" and studying
viruses, spam, and other such intrusions.

Upon time out of having an application open, and anytime
my computer performes a schedules task,I keep receiving a
blue Windows screen asking me to select the account user
desired.
I am the only account user for my computer.
How do I eliminate this screen and have ability to access
desktop etc. directly?

Control Panel / Display / Screen Saver - uncheck "On resume, display welcome
screen" and hit apply.

Unfortunately I do not have the "on resume, display
welcome" under the screen saver tab.
I am running windows xp home edition.
I do not find that capability in either xp or classic
mode.
I do have a box for "on resume, password protect",
however it is not checked either.
Any other suggestions please?

Many of the backed up files from my last system are
marked as read-only. I am trying to copy, to update and
generally change the files. In each case I am told that
I do not have adminstrator ability to change the read-
only designation.

In Control Panel under User Accounts there are two accoun

What can I use to change this and access my files.

Tom,

I don't have an answer but I do have the exact same
problem. If I get the answer I'll let you know. Maybe
you'll do the same for me.

Thanks,

Boot the computer in Safe Mode and log into the built in Administrator
account. Then you can go to Control Panel, User Accounts and elevate your
regular account.
