System Restore, Media Player, Connection Problem

This is a mess of problems but I believe that they are interrelated. First of
all, my internet connection came up with the Server execution failed and
shows in the taskbar that the internet is not connected. I tried opening
network connects to diagnose and repair and it won't do anything. Then, I
simply tried opening a movie to watch with WMP11 and it says that I don't
have access or the proxy settings are not correct. No audio or video will
open with WMP or with a few other programs saying the same thing. Before
this I was having a problem with iTunes and uninstalled it and everything was
fine. So, I figured that I would do system restore. It system restored and
nothing changed. Still the same problems. I tried system restoring again to a
later date and system restore would not work. So here I am, without music,
video or the ability to view my network connections with no option to
restore. Does anyone have any clue what to do besides reformat my computer
and install XP until the Vista service pack comes out?

I am running a HP Pavillion dv6000, windows Vista Home Premium, 2 GB ram.
