taskbar: volume control sometimes disappears

My volume control sometimes doesn't show up in my
taskbar. I have it set on "always show" in the settings >
taskbar > notification area > customize. I'd like to have
it show up every time I boot up in the taskbar. Any
suggestions would be appreciated.
