Temp Internet Files

Posted: 08-17-2003, 05:32 AM
I was just looking at Internet Tools, Temp Internet
Files. I went to Settings, then View objects. When I
did, there was the following information:
{C7B05B62-C8D7-438C-840B-4994DAAA8EEE} It said the
status was "damaged", the total size was "none", and the
creation date was 4/10/03. This is a brand new PC, an
HP a250n, XP Home operating System. I don't know what
that means and the affect the "damage" has on my system.
Can someone shed some light for me, and advise if I need
to take any action for repair. Thank you for your time.

You don't need to do anything. It's for helper programs for web pages and they are redownloaded as needed. Might be an idea to delete it though. You can delete anything here with the only penalty a slight delay if it is ever needed again (and it may not be needed again).

The above is general advise. This is the company that made the helper program.
www.gator.com.

Some people don't like this companies software installed on their machines as it monitors behaviour for marketing purposes.

I have a stupid ? for someone.
I accidently moved my temp internet file and don't where
to put it back to.
It seems that there is a bit of a re-learning curve
between win98/ME and XP pro.
1 other thing,Can anyone tell me how to make this Modem
on hold thing go away and stay gone?

Temporary Internet files directory should be at:
C:\Windows\Temp

Temporary internet files exist in various locations. Perhaps you mean
the ones in the path documents and settings \ yourname\ local settings
\ temporary internet files.

"Modem on hold" doesn't mean anything to me. I'd suggest you try doing
a google search.

Just 1 or 2 other little details that aren't
cooperating ...I now seem to have 2 main temp internet
files and both getting same stuff.haven't been able to
delete either.I don't think I need the one on the desktop.
I know that all the user profiles link to the same main
one. I think my friend created the one on the desktop.any
ideas on how I make it go away?

In XP temp files are truely temporary. You can delete them
and they will be recreated as needed. If you can't find
where you saved a file to then at least try to remember a
part of the file name and do a search by
going>start\search\all files and folders and then read the
lines and put a name in the appropriate one.In future make
sure you choose where to save a file to by clicking the
browse button when the prompt window comes up after
clicking a download. Then choose the file you want to save
to like "my documents". I'll look at your modem issue
next. keep smiling.

Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, Disk Cleanup. You may also want to
Defrag.

Cleanup.
