In Windows 98...I knew how to go in and delete all the
temporary internet files that were being stored. How do
I do this in Windows XP?

Clean them up from within Internet Explorer. Select Tools,
Options and you will see a screen allowing you to delete
them !

or ... browse to 'C:\Windows\Temporary Internet Files' and
delete them

My system will not allow me to open the Temporary
Internet Files. Is there some way for me to change this
so that I can?

I have tried accessing through the Tools menu and then
Internet Options......I can view them...but it won't let
me open any.

I have also tried to open them through Windows
Explorer.....but that won't even let me view the files
there.......

Thanks for you help.

just rename the folder \Documents and Settings\'username'\Local
Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5 to whatever you want.
After the next reboot, a new Content.IE5 folder and 4
brand-new sub-folders are rebuild.
Then you will be able to delete the entire old folder Content.IE5 with
all its files.
BTW, renaming a folder is a standard trick to bypass the "file in use"
message.
You can also use Winfile for XP, the old Win3.1 file manager.
