signed up for Beta2. Be sure to check any junk mail folders, too. Or, watch this newsgroup. I'm sure once RC1 becomes available to the CPP users, it will be posted here quickly. The key you used for Beta 2 should work with RC1. -Michael | Guest

| My understandinfg is that you wil lhave to do a "clean" install of Vista RC1 if you have either Beta 2 or Pre-RC1. Pre-RC1 did allow for a direct upgrade from Beta 2. As far as recieiving media of the actual RC1, if you are in the VIP program, you should receive it via DVD. | Thank you Michael. Do you know if I will have to pay the $1.50 to download it as is the case for the Vista Beta 2? I currently have it. I also have my managers MSDN and can download it, I don't know if my key will work on his MSDN or if I should NOT use that! I don't want to get him in trouble! Do you know if it will be a week or so until the common users get to "view" RC1? Just anxious. I can be patient if I need to ![]() I am tempted to download from 3rd party, but I don't want to mess up my system and get "hurt" ![]() "MICHAEL" wrote: Quote:

An "upgrade install" *is* a "clean install. Although, I had problems with upgrading from 5384 to 5536. I did a clean install. I then used the upgrade install from 5536 to 5552, it worked beautifully. Perhaps, it is the upgrading from Beta 2 that is problematic. It more than likely would be a good thing to just go ahead and do a clean install of RC1 if you are uising Beta 2 (5384). When I tried the upgrade install on 5384, it spent 82 minutes to get to the screen "Please wait while Windows starts for the first time" and then would keep restarting and never got past that. The upgrade install of 5536 to 5552 was flawless. It took 45 minutes. I only had one problem, that has been so since I have been beta testing Vista. I still have to use my WinXP SigmaTel sound drivers and then use Windows Update to install the new drivers. Doesn't make sense, but no other way works. -Michael Quote:

it is beta software, and this discussion has been raised here. It is probably just best to use your own key. I wasn't aware that anyone was charged for downloading Vista. I thought they only did that for the Office beta. I don't think they are going to charge anything. Especially, if you are one of the original Beta2 CPP users. They would have already said something about that. Quote:

| After thinking on this a bit, I believe what Microsoft really wants beta users to test is the upgrade install from WinXP to Vista. Of course, only do this on a *test* machine. -Michael "MICHAEL" <u158627_emr@dslr.net> wrote in message news:eGeoysb0GHA.3568@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... Quote:

| That's just a dumb idea if they do that. If the servers are costing this extremely profitable company too much, just write it off as R&D costs. -Michael "Colin Barnhorst" <colinbarharst(remove)@msn.com> wrote in message news:%233XSWKc0GHA.4580@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... Quote:

| I have pre-RC1 5536 installed now - SO 1. will the same key work with RC1? (Beta 2 key was eaten by my pet snake) 2. is it best to install RC1 clean, and not "update" 5536? 3. is it best to "update" 5536 to RC1? 4. is it best to upgrade a XP Home SP2 drive I have, which is expendable, to RC1? 5. Can I do what I damn well please and still be OK? :0) "Colin Barnhorst" <colinbarharst(remove)@msn.com> wrote in message news:%233XSWKc0GHA.4580@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl...
