I don't have any idea what the problem could be. At 4:00 this morning
the computer was on and everything was fine. When I got it out at work
today I got the screen saying that Vista wasn't properly shut down and
chose to start it up normally. It looks like everything is going to
work fine until I realize that the desktop is just never appearing.
With the TabletPC there is this little application that loads on the
side of the screen and pops out when you want to write instead of type,
and that thing launches, but nothing else. It does the exact same thing
in safe mode. In safe mode I can do a ctr+alt+del and get to the
options to show the task manager, but that won't even open when it goes
back to the black screen. I have no idea what just happened, but it
totally nuked my computer. I took the hard drive out to see if I could
still access the hard drive, and I could. I don't have access to my
profile because I don't have administrator permissions on this machine
at work, but it seems everything is fine.
The last update that was installed was SP1 a couple days ago. It was
running fine and I had no reason to suspect that anything would go wrong
until it wouldn't boot up this morning. The thing won't even sleep when
I press the power button, so I know something is wrong. The fan is on
and the machine is getting hot. Any ideas what the problem could be?
