The dying optical mouse

I wonder if anyone has a similar problem with their
optical mouse. The power seems to die on the mouse & it
stops working. If you pull the USB socket out then plug it
back in it usually springs to life. I'm tempt to just plug
it into the PS2 socket but I've got another mouse attached
to it (a roller ball) with I use now & again.

Is it the mouse, Windows or USB sockets ?

I'm running Win98 , 1GHz processor, 256 Mb RAM & the mouse
is the Itellipoint wired Optical Blue thingy bob.

Try this

Click start then right click my computer
click properties and click the hardware tab
click the device manager button
double clidk the universial serial buss controllers
branch to expand it
right click USB Root Hub then click properties.
Click the Power Mangement tab.
Deselect the "Allow computer to turn off this device to
save power" check box
There may be more than one USB Root Hub to reset.
click ok and close the device manager.

This will keep windows from powering down the usb port to
save power.

This may be your problem.

this also coz I didn't know windows did that

I'll let you know

I love the mouse name =D. "Optical Blue thingy bob." Very
specific =P.

P.S. What the other guy said about the USB Root Hub
worked for me. I had the same problem with my
