The verdict is.. the ISO is corrupt

I downloaded the x64 version of Vista Beta 2. The CRC was the same both
times.. so I'm pretty sure the file came down correctly off the net. The
problem is in the burning of the disc.

Now let me say, my system is high end.. dual core, 2GB RAM, NEC 3550A
burner, etc. I've *NEVER* had any problems burning off ISOs, and I've burned
at least 50-100 on this drive so far. When I use Nero and burn the ISO and
turn on "verify", it finds sectors that do not match.

Something is up with the ISO. The problem is, since I have x64 Vista, and
I'm running XP Pro 32bit, I can't mount the ISO and run the install from
within Windows. I'll have to download the x86 version of Vista.

Grr..

There is nothing wrong with the ISO. The problem is, "Setup" is a 64-bit
application (in Vista 5384 x64) and can not run in a 32-bit (WIN XP x86)
environment. Boot from the DVD and all shall be well.

I wasn't trying to run it in 32bit XP. I'm simply saying that the
verification process failed.. in other words, the data burned to the DVD did
not match the original ISO.

Then it would seem obvious that your burner and/or media are defective. If
the MD5 checksum matches what you downloaded, I seriously doubt the ISO is
changing bits internally during the build. Try different media, or a
different burner if possible.

Yeah, you're right..turns out the onboard IDE controller is hosed. Time for
a new motherboard..

You CANNOT run the setup.exe from the Vista x64
in Windows XP 32-bit! It is a 64-bit program
which simply will not run in Win XP 32-bit!

You have to boot from the DVD to start the Vista
x64 installation!
