Theme to Windows 95 redux

Hello!

Venerable Windows users that we are, we recall (sometimes with fond memories) the days when Windows 95 ruled the desktop. Perhaps it
wasn't as exciting as XP, and we doubt that it will be as vivacious as Vista -- whenever Microsoft gets around to releasing it.

Nevertheless, it was the little things that Windows 95 did better that we miss.

One such thing that we yearn for is a simple way to change and maintain desktop themes. A desktop theme is a collection of
wallpaper, mouse pointers, sound effects, colors, fonts, screensavers and startup/shutdown screens, bundled together into a
convenient package.
Cheers, Roman

actually that was an add-on to windows 95 called windows 95 Plus!
that they later made a part of win98. THen they make an extra package with
more themes
that was plus! for win98...

it was not part of the original win95 cd...

you always had to buy Plus!, and there is a version of plus! for xp too,
with extra themes.
However they did not unlock the ability to add 3rd party msstyles (visual
styles).
That was left to 3rd party programs and some hacks that floated around the
internet.

I know however what you mean... you are talking about a program that was
like plus! was in win95 that could handle all aspects of a theme and save
it...

sound & cursor themes especialy died with xp.....

I'd prefer switchable desktops as well as themes (themes soon wore off
after time for me)

At least with multiple desktops (one hopes) all things could be user prefs?

I like to switch to a big grey desktop on occasions but under present
Vista and single user EULAs that seems an ... well, a bit of a shame really.
