Perhaps it's a DNS problem?
That server name is an alias:
<output cmd="nslookup">
Name: horus.meteoschweiz.ch
Address: 141.249.133.4
Aliases: www.meteoschweiz.ch
</output>
Heh. If it is you'll be out of luck anyway.
The first thing the canonical name does is redirect to:
http://www.meteoschweiz.ch/web/de/wetter.html
However, if necessary you could workaround that
by adding a HOSTS entry with the above IP address
and the name you are having trouble using.
BTW you can also try checking connectivity with the telnet 80 command.
E.g. in a cmd window enter:
telnet www.meteoschweiz.ch 80
If the screen clears that means you have reached an HTTP server.
To test further you can try entering in that blank screen:
GET /
(That's GET<space><slash><Enter>. Just those 3 keystrokes.)
Oops. This is on Vista? I understand you don't have telnet.exe
on it? Do you have a HyperTerminal then? You can do the same
thing with it using its TCP/IP Winsock connection option.
BTW to give your thread a larger Vista readership
I have added a cross-post to Vista General and Networking.
Users of Vista's Help portal may not be aware that the
last 5 newsgroups listed there as "Vista newsgroups"
(including this one) are in fact common newsgroups
which are not Vista specific.
