Thunking Spooler APIS from 32 to 64 Process has Stopped Working

Posted: 03-06-2008, 11:00 AM
Hi,

I have Windows Vistax64 and recently I have been receiving the above message
every time I try to open an Office application, Office 2003 32-bit is
installed. If I remove all the printers I don't get this message, but if I
add a network printer which has a Vistax64 bit driver I will start getting
the error again.

This has only been happening this week, maybe after some updates were
installed.

Does anyone have a solution?

Chris.

Hi,

I have deleted the following updates, but still get this problem:

KB946254
KB944941
KB943983

Updates KB907417 and KB945185 can't be deleted. I would appreciate some help
with this.

Chris.

I assume the 64 bit programs like notepad can print. Make sure you are not
running the 32 bit app by opening task manager. Anything with *32 is not
x64.

You experience problems when you try to print a document in a 32-bit program
on a computer that is running a 64-bit version of Windows Vista

Try enabling the following:
Click > Start > Control panel > Internet Options > Advanced Tab > Security
section.
Select the following three options:
1. Allow active content fro CDs to run on My Computer*
2. Allow active content to run files on My Computer*
3. Allow software to run or install even if the signature is invalid.

See if this helps

Thunking Spooler APIS from 32 to 64 process has stopped working
Posted: 05-15-2008, 08:33 PM

Hi
I'm using a Canon MP800R multifunction printer/scanner. The problem is
I can't install it on my network. Canon were not very helpful and sai
it was a "Vista specific issue", not "Canon specific"
Canon use a weird install procedure starting with a USB connection an
then migrating to wireless or wired. The printer WILL work via USB bu
when I try to configure for a network using the Canon IJ Network Too
version 2.2.1, I can't complete the printer configuration. Either manua
or automatic search for ip address causes the appcrash

I'm using the latest drivers 1.10 64 bit, Canon IJ network tool versio
2.2.1; MP navigator 2.12 which are supposed to be for Vista 64

I guess the setup software (IJ network tool) is 32bit, so the cras
involves splwow64.exe

What's the solution
1) Let it go and be grateful the machine works at al
2) Hope that Vista will make a hotfix eventuall
3) Hope that Canon will do the decent thing and invest some money t
make a proper 64bit IJ network too

Any thoughts? It seems crazy to have a network printer unworkabl
except for USB, but at least it will print/scan!:mad

splwow64 is a software layer that translates 32bit application print
commands so the 64bit spooler will understand what to do.

I could never get the IJ network software to install on x64.

Are you running SP1?

Alan, thanks for your reply.
Yes, I'm running SP1. Just had yet another email from Canon tec
support.
Now they tell me that I'm the only one describing this problem an
they've got a 64 bit Vista machine to install the same printer with n
problems. So, it's a "computer specific" problem now!
I'm thinking their "support" is a joke. So, it's back to the trusty ol
USB.:

Does not apply to my system (per the hotfix after I tried to install).

Vista Business x64 w/SP1 and patched/up to date.
Office 2007 + Visio 2007 + Project 2007
Savin c4540 multi function printer using PCL6 drivers for Vista x64

printing from Excel and Project (and other Office 2007) fails with the
"Thunking Spooler APIS from 32 to 64 Process has stopped working" error
message.

printing from notepad to Savin reports invalid handle
printing from notepad to HP LJ 4000N is VERY VERY SLOW and works 50% of the
time.

Very frustrating - especially since this is my introduction to Vista. If
Vista can't print, it's a deal killer. I have to be able to print reliably.
So far, I can't print reliably.
