It could be that a temporary Internet files folder location has been
inadvertently set to your desktop. Generally, it's ok to delete anything
that starts with a tilde (~) or ends with (.tmp). You may want to try
renaming the folder and see if that has any adverse effects on your programs
before you delete it.
