time estimate on XP SP1 to SP2 conversion

Can those how have deployed images on SP1 and then later made an SP2 image
convey how long it took them (in days) to do the conversion and test?

I have 2 images I will need to update from SP1 to SP2 and am looking to get
ballpark estimate on how long it should take.

Can an SP1 and SP2 build co-exist on the same TD development platform or do
I have to wipe my PC clean of SP1 and start an entire build all over again?

Assuming you've got everything laid out with your SP1 images (build, deployment environment, hardware setup).

1-2 days if you don't run into known and unknown issues with TD upgrades and SP2 BSODs. (see NG archive for more info)

Also, dependending on your system requirements you may want to add some good time (a week) for minimizing the SP2 image footprint.

Yes, the can exist. If you don't auto-upgrade SP1 images you can build them within SP2 toolkit as the SP1 Repository is still there.
Another trick there to have totally independent environments would be switching between the new SP2 database and old backed up SP1
database before you launch TD/CD/CDM (that is where you will have to detach from one db file and attach to another db file).

Hi David,

I believe I spent just 1 day making the upgrade with the first project.
Subsequent projects took just an hour or so with each one.
Once you upgrade the development machine to SP2, it can no longer build SP1.
There's no need to start over, the only way to setup SP2 is to start with SP1.
If you want to continue building SP1 images, you'll have to setup a seperate
machine to build SP2 images. Or you might be able to setup a seperate
database, but I haven't tried that myself.

Cheers,

Andrew Roy
