Time-out Screen for User Account

Out of ignorance, I downloaded some Microsoft upgrades to
Windows XP Home which installed a User Account screen
that now comes up automaticaly. I can not remove this
screen nor effect any changes to the settings.

As it stands, if I am idle for 60 seconds, the User
Account screen pops up and I have to "click" on it to
regain access to my work. Unfortunately, I have many 60
second gaps in my work and this has become a real pain.

Is there:

1. any way to increase the amount of idle time?

2. any way to reverse this upgrade (I don't know which
number it was) so that I do not have a User Account
screen? My system is a stand-alone at home and has no
probability of unauthrized access.

Thanks.

Charles
