Is it time to upgrade for RDC?

Anyway... can anyone give me some basic information as to how RDC works in
XP and/or 2003?

I currently use GoToMyPC.com to accomplish controlling my local and remote
cmoluters, and while it works like a dream, it ain't cheap, and when I get
my other sites up and running, I want to have access to every desktop in my
company. Maybe if I install XP pro (or 2003), I will be able to do this,
though my LIMITED understanding is that I will have to set up either MANY
redirected TCP ports on my Firewall or give each machine a public IP address
(a possible scenario). Is that correct?

So my first question is, does XP or 2003's remote desktop connection will
allow me to see exactly what a user is doing on their desktop as well as
control their computer from mine remotely?

My current setup is...

Location 1) 10 perr to peer workstations running Win 2k Pro with Business
DSL and Zyxel Firewall.

Location 2) Win 2k Server and 10 workstations running Win 2k Pro with a
Frame Relay / Cisco Router internet connection and proprietary firewall I
control.

Location 3) Win 2k Advanced Server, W2K Terminal Server and 30 workstations
running Win 2k Pro with a Business Cable Modem internet connection and Zyxel
Firewll.

I am at Location 3 and would like to be able to access the desktops of ALL
my workstations.

Why not setup a VPN into each location. Then you can access each PC via the VPN tunnel. No need to
open a separate port for each PC.

Cause I learn as I go and don't really know what I would need to set up a
VPN or how it works?

If that's the case then Remote Assistance is an option. I did not realize this was a help desk
function. You need to be running XP (Pro or Home) on your PC in order to use Remote Assistance to
another XP (Pro or Home) box.

There is no Windows 2003 Professional except for the new 64-bit
versions...

Remote Assistance is in Windows 2003 Server...

So why is my reseller telling me that all licensing is for 2003 now and that
they cannot get XP Pro licensnig anymore?

I need to be able to "pcAnywhere" into my users computers from my
workstation, regardless of there they are located as long as they are
connected via high speed internet.

So I guess XP can do this, but from what my reseller seems to say, XP is
being phased out in favor of 2003.
